The SkyGateway™ Pro complements the SkyGateway series of products, operating as a carrierclass
SkyPilot® network base station that can be used as a building-block for high-capacity
network deployments. Mirroring the fl exibility of a standard SkyGateway, the SkyGateway
Pro provides capacity injection to the mesh network. Unlike the SkyGateway, however, the
SkyGateway Pro employs a high-gain, steerable beamforming panel antenna to service a 90°
sector. By deploying multiple SkyGateway Pro units, service providers can easily scale available
bandwidth to meet changing application demands and enhance network reliability with redundant
points of service. The SkyGateway Pro enhances the range of SkyPilot options available
to service providers, integrators, and municipalities to deploy a wireless infrastructure ready to
serve multiple private and public sector applications.
The SkyGateway Pro employs a smart antenna that is able to steer a 15° (azimuth beamwidth)
high-gain (22 dBi) beam over a 90° coverage arc. The high gain provides an improved link
budget compared to the SkyGateway, supporting comparably higher modulation data rates
and allowing increased data throughput to be achieved. The SkyGateway Pro uses advanced
RF isolation techniques to improve performance in environments prone to radio interference
and to allow units to be readily collocated. Each SkyGateway Pro panel can then be mounted
with the desired downtilt as needed for tower and building deployments, unlike the standard
SkyGateway where its 360° antenna array did not allow donwtilting.
Multiple SkyGateway Pro units can be collocated, where any unit serving the same sector must
be confi gured to operate on diff erent frequency channels. Up to four SkyGateway Pro units can
be confi gured to operate on the same channel and provide full 360° coverage. When multiple
SkyGateway Pro units operate on the same channel, the units are connected together with an
external Ethernet switch in order to coordinate packet transmission and reception. Coordinated
scheduling is distributed among the units to avoid creation of a single point of failure. Throughput
is increased, however, because each SkyGateway Pro can transmit and receive simultaneously,
except in certain cases when the beams are too close to each other. As a result, up to a 4x
increase in capacity compared to a standard SkyGateway can be realized.
